Auckland's Climate Action Plan

I’ve cut red meat out of my diet

Tell us why in the comments e.g. to protect animals, for my health, to save money or for the environment.

Animal agriculture has significantly greater impact on climate than all forms of transport combined !

· I've been lacto-vegetarian for 26 years, and have been against intensive farming for nearly as long. Main reason: no cooking or fridge needed, plus lower impact on the earth, so I am very close to living sustainably. (My milk is organic for animal welfare reasons, plus the land can easily support that.)

Sounds like you will be saving on your electricity bill too David, which is a win-win!

Livestock and their byproducts account for at least 32,000 million tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) per year, or 51% of all worldwide greenhouse gas emissions.

2,500 gallons of water are needed to produce 1 pound of beef.

To name a couple. I wont even start on deforestation. I'll be here all day.

I'm vegan for the animals as well but the effect animal agriculture has on the environment cannot be ignored and NZ is doing a terrible job to prevent climate change as 49% of NZ's emissions are from the beef and dairy industry. NZ is selfishly killing the planet and people need to stop consuming beef and dairy. A strong government with an ounce of sense would create a beef and dairy tax to encourage reduced consumption and raise money to help beef and dairy farms make the switch to more sustainable produce.

Vegan for the animals. A nice bonus is that not funding the animal industrial complex helps to reduce climate change. Our planet and those that live here are dying from climate change. It is urgent that we change our diets as much and as quickly as possible.
