Many areas on land owned by the council, especially Golf courses and some city reserves could easily be converted into City sanctuary islands with no non-native predators. Native birds can island hop from larger DOC and ARC reserves and start to re-populate our city areas

Space is at a premium in Auckland, so planting projects need to be as effective as possible at offsetting CO2 emissions. Work should be done to identify (and use) the grasses, shrubs and trees that do this best, and enable better planning and prediction of carbon uptake. This would make it easier to understand the impact the work will have on emissions.. This would involve: 1 - Research on the C sequestration rates of different species (native and exotic, non-invasive).  2 - Picking a...

What will be the lasting urban landscape impact of the Central Rail Link? Albert Street is currently almost closed as the trench is built. Once all the walls and temporary structures are taken down what will ahve been put back in there? Probably back to the 4 lane road again. What if the trench was covered with landscaping - trees, grass, picnic areas, a 100 meter run track, pump track bike humps and corners... Then connect it to Victoria Park, our premium inner city park with a wide...

We need more homes in central areas where people want to live. To prevent the remaining green spaces being built on, we need to convert at-grade carparks to housing.

We need actual functioning ecologies, not green wash. Green rooves are green wash.

People living in the CBD do not have access to land to grow and tend to vege gardens. Providing more areas for this would benefit the potential new gardeners and the people walking past and would pay for itself with annual fees.

I would like to see a reduction in empty lots being left to get covered in weeds. There is huge amount of work being done to fight the battle of weeds in this city and we are currently not doing well. Empty sites are often weed bank and spread seed every where. Owners should have to keep the areas tidy, or plant useful plants. Higher rates if covered in weeds. Might also cut down on land banking.
